Having a long career in the technology research and application of fire theory, building fire protection, smoke control, fire risk assessment, occupant evacuation and other related fields, Mei Xiujuan has headed or participated in about 40 significant key research programs and standard development programs, supported by the National Key Technologies R&D Programs of China (during the Ninth, Tenth, Twelfth, and Thirteenth Five-Year Plan Periods), the 973 Program, the public-interest research programs of national research institutes, and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS). In recent years, Mei has presided over and completed 135 subsidiary subjects of research programs, including Research on Key Technology for Smoke Control in Urban Traffic Tunnels, Research on Vertical Evacuation and Rescue Technology in Highway Shield Tunnels of the Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Support Application Basic (Key) Program, and a horizontal research program called Fire Simulation and Life Safety Assessment in Deluxe Passenger Ships in Inland Waters. Furthermore, she has headed or participated in the development of such 6 standards as GB/T 31593.1-2015 Fire Safety Engineering-Part 1:Assessment, Verification and Validation of Calculation Methods, GB/T 41382-2022 Fire Tests—Open Calorimetry—Measurement of the Rate of Production of Heat and Combustion Products for Fires of up to 40MW, T/CECS 755-2020 Specification for Fire Protection Design of Tobacco Production Buildings, T/CECS 712-2020 Technical Specification for Fire Safety Engineering of Pseudo-Classic Architecture, and T/CECS XX Technical Specification for the Vertical Evacuation Escape System of Highway Shield Tunnel, as well as the Sichuan provincial standard Technical Code for Fire Protection of Wood Pseudo-Classic Architecture.
She has headed or taken part in the edition of 5 monographs, including China Fire Manual, Fire Safety Design and Fire Retardant Technology in Public Places, Fire Prevention and Control Technology in High Buildings and Large Underground Spaces, Fire Protection in Ancient Buildings and Fire Protection in Highway Tunnels, and has published more than 50 technical papers in domestic or international public journals and international/national academic conferences, such as Fire Characteristics in Underground Buildings and Suggestions on Fire Prevention, The Role of the Fire Field Model as a Design Tool for Performance-Based Fire Design Code, Structural Design of Mobile Terminal System Software for Assessment of Direct Property Loss in Fires, Numerical Simulation Research on the Effect of Air Curtain on the Smoke Spreading Characteristics in Tunnel Fires, Experimental Study of Smoke-Proof Air Curtain in Tunnel Fires, and Effectiveness of Smoke Confinement of Air Curtain in Tunnel Fire. She also joined in the code translation, including the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) (2003 Edition and 2006 Edition), and the Code for Means of Egress for Buildings and Structures (NFPA 101B) (2002 Edition). In addition, Mei has obtained upward of 30 patents (6 for inventions and more than 20 for utility models), such as the Fire Proofing and Escape Cover Board for Tunnel Ground, and 2 software copyrights, including the Assessment Software for Direct Property Loss in Fires as well as the Mobile Terminal System Software for Assessment of Direct Property Loss in Fires. Furthermore, Mei has obtained 15 Science and Technology Awards, including 1 second prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Ministry of Public Security, 3 Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 2 Science and Technology Innovation Awards from the CFPA.
